Meaning Of Life is the eighth studio album by American singer Kelly Clarkson, released in October 2017 via Atlantic Records.

Meaning of Life is Kelly Clarkson’s debut album release with Atlantic Records, after completing her recording contract with RCA Records and 19 Recordings, which she won with her American Idol Season 1 victory.

The new album is a collection of smart and sensual soul-inspired pop, which belongs among the legendary label’s classic canon. Clarkson united a stellar team of top songwriters and producers to collaborate with her, among them past collaborators Jason Halbert, Jesse Shatkin and GRAMMY Award-winning “Producer of the Year” Greg Kurstin.

Clarkson revealed that she had previously wanted to record these type of songs, but had never found an opportunity to do so. She compared the new material as reminiscent of the songs she had performed during her tenure on American Idol, and remarked that the album is a "new and fresh thing" for her and made her feel like a "brand new artist again".

Clarkson revealed a preview of selections from Meaning of Life on Entertainment Weekly: the lead single, "Love So Soft", is dubbed a tribute to classic R&B and "Whole Lotta Woman", is described as a metaphor of American Southern culture, primarily with Texan women. This song features instrumental work from American soul band Earth, Wind & Fire. She described the song "Medicine" as a '90s-influenced number similar to Mariah Carey's "Emotions". She co-wrote the ballad "I Don't Think About You" with Harlœ, which chronicles her split with the RCA label.

She described the guitar solo-driven "Slow Dance" as the "sexiest thing" on the album. The final track initially previewed, "Go High", is inspired by Michelle Obama's famous "When they go low, we go high" quote that she said during her speech at the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Two additional tracks were previewed—"Would You Call That Love", which reunites Clarkson with Kurstin, is taken from her experience in witnessing several couples in her life fail in their respective relationship; and "Heat", which sings of giving a 100% commitment to one another.

Clarkson is one of popular music’s most successful pop artists, with total worldwide sales of more than 25 million albums and 36 million singles, with 17 single releases now boasting multi-platinum, platinum, and gold certifications around the world, including such global favourites as the ARIA gold singles “Miss Independent” and  “Because Of You”, 3 x platinum ARIA chart #1 single “Mr. Know It All”, ARIA 3 x platinum “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)”,  ARIA gold “Heartbeat Song”, and ARIA platinum “My Life Would Suck Without You”.

The Texas-born, Nashville-based singer-songwriter first came to fame in 2002 as the winner of the US American Idol’s inaugural season. Clarkson’s debut single, “A Moment Like This”, followed and quickly went to #1 on the US Billboard’s “Hot 100,” ultimately ranking as the year’s best-selling single in that country.

The album was released to positive reviews from music critics and has reached #2 on the US Billboard 200, #11 on the UK and #6 on the Australian ARIA Albums charts.
