Sloe Gin is the sixth studio album by American blues rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa, released in August 2007 via Provogue Records and J&R Adventures.

Joe Bonamassa is an American blues rock guitarist, singer and songwriter. When he was only 12 years old, Bonamassa opened for B.B. King. In the last 13 years Bonamassa has put out 15 solo albums through his independent record label J&R Adventures, of which 11 have reached #1 on the Billboard Blues charts.

Bonamassa has played alongside such artists as Stephen Stills, Eric Clapton, Blondie Chaplin, Foreigner, Buddy Guy, Steve Winwood, Warren Haynes, and Derek Trucks among others. His career highlights include performances at the Royal Albert Hall and a Grammy Award nomination in 2013 for his collaboration with Beth Hart on the duo’s sophomore album Seesaw. In addition to his music career, Joe Bonamassa runs a nonprofit organization called the Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation, whose mission it is to further music education by funding scholarships and providing music education resources to schools in need.

Sloe Gin was produced by Kevin Shirley with a hot band of musicians comprising Anton Fig (drums, percussion), Carmine Rojas (bass), Rick Melick (keyboards), Bogie Bowles (drums, hammered dulcimer), Jeff Bova (orchestral arrangements) and The Bovaland Symphonic Orchestra (strings).

Sloe Gin kicks off with a Chris Whitely cover song Ball Peen Hammer, which sets up the tone of the album with accoustic guitar leading into the band rocking in full flight. Chris Whitely was an American blues guitarist and singer-songwriter who died at the age of 45 in 2005. One of these Days is a Ten Years After cover written by Alvin Lee with additions by Bonamassa, which starts out with a slow guitar riff and then launches into a heavier chorus and finishes with a fantastic guitar solo, demonstrating his "guitar chops". Seagull is a Bad Company cover from their self titled debut album, which Bonamassa makes his own.

Dirt in my Pocket is an original Joe Bonamassa song co-written with American guitartist and producer Jim Huff and contains a great guitar riff and mix of accoustic and electric guitars.

Sloe Gin is the standout track on the album - a cover of a Tim Curry song taken from his 1978 album Read my Lips. The song was written by legendary producer Bob Ezrin and the late Michael Kamen. The song moves through mood phases building to a soaring guitar solo that is reminiscent of Pink Floyd's David Gilmour. At just over 8 minutes the track builds to a peak and then lets you down slowly, complete with interlude of street sounds and sirens. This song has become a staple of Bonmasssa's live shows over the years.

Another Kind of Love is a John Mayall cover and Around the Bend is another original song co-written with legendary songwriter / lyricist Will Jennings. Black Night is a Charles Brown cover song. Charles Brown was an American blues pianist and singer who had some commercial success in the 1940s and 1950s. Black Night kicks off with a cool solo to set the mood and then lays into a smooth blues feel.

Jelly Roll is a John Martyn (British guitarist and singer-songwriter) cover song. Richmond and the instrumental India are both Bonamassa original songs and close out the album.

Sloe Gin topped the US Billboard Top Blues Albums chart and reached #184 on the US Billboard 200 Albums chart and #50 on the UK Albums charts.

The title of the album is a reference to the song of the same name by English musician Tim Curry from his 1978 debut album Read My Lips.

Music website Allmusic gave Sloe Gin four out of five stars, with reviewer Steve Leggett claiming that the album showed how Bonamassa had "stepped up his songwriting ... and cut way down on his clichés, delivering in the process his most varied and impressive album yet". Classic Rock magazine rated the album with 8 out of 10 stars and gave the album a rave review.
