Had To Cry Today is the fourth studio album by American blues rock musician Joe Bonamassa, released in August, 2004 by J&R Adventures and Provogue .

Joe Bonamassa is an American blues rock guitarist, singer and songwriter.

When he was only 12 years old, Bonamassa opened for B.B. King. In the last 13 years Bonamassa has put out 15 solo albums through his independent record label J&R Adventures, of which 11 have reached #1 on the Billboard Blues charts.

Bonamassa has played alongside such artists as Stephen Stills, Eric Clapton, Blondie Chaplin, Foreigner, Buddy Guy, Steve Winwood, Warren Haynes, and Derek Trucks among others. His career highlights include performances at the Royal Albert Hall and a Grammy Award nomination in 2013 for his collaboration with Beth Hart on the duo’s sophomore album Seesaw. In addition to his music career, Joe Bonamassa runs a nonprofit organisation called the Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation, whose mission it is to further music education by funding scholarships and providing music education resources to schools in need.

Blues-rock guitar wizard Joe Bonamassa can make a set of electric six-strings burn and wail, but like many such guitarists, he still requires focus for it to be truly special. Such intense focus is a hallmark of Had To Cry Today. While some guitarists squander notes, Bonamassa makes each one count whether he's engaging in country-flavored picking (the late, great Danny Gatton was clearly an influence), blistering rock-edged blues, or turbulent, inspired jamming.

Had To Cry Today delivers on Bonamassa's previous promise in a big way, it’s a well balanced album where every track is worth listening to. His voice matches and compliments the edgy style and riffs of his music. His passion is clearly evcident in every note he sings and plays.

This album is easily one of the better modern electric blues albums with each song showing a different aspect of Bonamassa’s ability, ranging from acoustics with a Spanish flare to hard driven rock, and are a pleasure to listen to.
