Cut is the seventh studio album by Australian rock band Hunters & Collectors, originally released in October 1992 via White Label and Mushroom Records.

Hunters & Collectors formed in 1981 in Melbourne and released six studio albums prior to this album, Hunters & Collectors (1982), The Fireman’s Curse (1983), The Jaws of Life (1984), Human Frailty (1986), What’s A Few Men? (1987) and Ghost Nation (1989), all of which achieved chart success in Australia.

The big breakthrough came with the release of their fourth album Human Frailty in 1986 which reached #10 on the Australian Albums charts. Ghost Nation (1989) also achieved similar chart success, also reaching the Top 10.

The line-up of the band that made this album was Mark Seymour (lead vocals, guitar), Doug Falconer (drums), John Archer (bass), Michael Waters (keyboards and trombone), Jack Howard (trumpet), Jeremy Smith (French horn), Barry Palmer (lead guitar) and Robert Miles (sound engineer and art).

Originally released in 1992, Cut was one of this legendary Australian band's most commercially successful and critically lauded albums. Cut featured six singles; “We The People”, “Head Above Water”, “Where Do You Go?”, “True Tears of Joy”, “Imaginary Girl” and the iconic “Holy Grail”.

Cut was mostly produced by Don Gehman, the US producer behind REM, John Mellencamp and Jimmy Barnes. He incorporated electronic percussion and drum loops into their sound on this album.

The album was a huge commercial success peaking at #6 on the Australian albums charts and spent 41 weeks in the Top 50 and became the longest charting and highest selling Australian album in 1993. The band were nominated for Best Group at the 1992 ARIA Music Awards and Album of the Year for Cut in the following year.

Long out of print, and timed to coincide with its 25th anniversary, this landmark Australian album is now reissued on 180 gram yellow vinyl. Remastered for vinyl by Don Bartley and pressed at Pallas in Germany, one of the world’s premier record pressing plants.
