Glen Campbell - Galveston

Galveston is the thirteenth studio album by American singer guitarist Glen Campbell, originally released in March 1969 via Capitol Records.

The album was produced and arranged by Al De Lory, who was a studio musician and a member of The Wrecking Crew in the 1960s, along with Glen Campbell.

The album featured two Jimmy Webb compositions, one of which has become one of Campbell’s best known songs, the title track “Gavleston”.

Notably this album moved away from Campbell and DeLory choosing well known cover songs as had been featured on prior albums. Instead there is a selection of songs written by Campbell and other songwriters that give the album more of a country feel (with less pop) than perhaps some of the prior albums he recorded for Capitol.

The result is a strong and cohesive album that showcase Campbell’s emotive and honest singing style and his guitar skills on “Oh What A Woman”. “If This Is Love” showcases Campbell’s underrated songwriting skills and “Today” is a cover song he makes his own.

The first single “Galveston” reached #3 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart, #1 on the Hot Country and #1 on the Easy Listening Charts. The album peaked at #1 on the US Country Albums chart and at #2 on the US Billboard 200 Albums charts.

This is one of his best albums.
