Greatest Hits 1982–1989 is the third greatest hits album, and twentieth album overall, by the American rock band Chicago, originally released in November 1989 via Reprise Records.

Formed in 1967 in Chicago, Illinois. The self-described "rock and roll band with horns" began as an experimental rock band and later moved to a predominantly softer sound, generating several hit ballads. Chicago had a steady stream of hits throughout the 1970s and 1980s, second only to The Beach Boys in Billboard singles and albums chart success among American bands. Chicago have sold over 40 million albums in the US, with 23 gold, 18 platinum, and 8 multi-platinum albums. Over the course of their career they have had five number-one albums and 21 top-ten singles. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April 2016.

After returning from a career dip in 1982, Chicago came back hard with the song "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" and continued to hit with power ballads, among them "Hard Habit to Break" and "You're the Inspiration", all sung by Peter Cetera. When Jason Scheff stepped in as Peter Cetera's replacement in 1985 after he left to pursue a solo career, the streak continued and Chicago went on to score with "Will You Still Love Me?", "I Don't Wanna Live Without Your Love", and "Look Away", all which are all heard here. Greatest Hits 1982–1989 is also the last Chicago album with drummer and founding member Danny Seraphine, before his departure in 1990.

On release Greatest Hits 1982–1989 reached No. 37 on the US Billboard 200, while its international release reached No. 2 in the Netherlands, and No. 4 in Germany, earning 5x Platinum Certification in the US, Platinum in the UK and Spain, and Gold Certification in Finland, Japan, and Canada.

This is a reissue of the North American release that has a different tracklisting to the European release titled The Heart Of...Chicago.
