Made In America is the tenth studio album by American pop duo Carpenters, originally released in June 1981 via A&M Records.

Made In America would be the final studio album released in Karen Carpenter’s lifetime. In 1985 Richard Carpenter said "that was Karen's favourite album and is mine, out of all our projects".

By the end of 1978 Richard Carpenter sought help for sedative addiction and decided to take the rest of 1979 off to recuperate. Richard suspected that Karen was also suffering from anorexia nervosa, however, Karen kept working and went to New York to record a solo album with producer Phil Ramone. Her solo album was completed by 1980, however the record company was not keen to release the material, which was devastating to her. Later in 1980 Karen married Tom Burris and decided to record a new album with Richard, who had now recovered from his addiction issues.

Made In America is a comeback album for the duo and has renewed energy and bounce in the songs and arrangements used for the album. “Touch Me When We’re Dancing” is particularly special as it marked a new sensuality and sound for Karen. Karen also played drums in the studio for the first time since Horizon on the song "When It's Gone (It's Just Gone)".

The final original composition on the album “Because We Are In Love (The Wedding Song)” is very poignant as it is like a bookend for her professional recording career and life, being the last track of the final studio album. Especially after the success of their 1970 single “We’ve Only Just Begun”.

There is a cute cover song of an oldie (but goodie) “Beechwood 4-5789” which was made into a 1960s themed video.

The album reached #52 on the US Billboard 200, #12 on the UK and #50 on the Australian Albums charts.

Check out the songs:  “I Believe You”; “Touch Me When We’re Dancing”; “(Want You) Back In My Life Again”; “These Good Old Dreams”; “Beechwood 4-5789’; and “Because We Are In Love (The Wedding Song)”.

This LP record is a 2018 reissue on 180 gram heavyweight vinyl featuring remastered audio with replicated original album artwork and digital download code, pressed in Europe.
