Benjamin Booker - Witness

Witness is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Benjamin Booker, released in June 2017 via ATO Records in the US and Rough Trade Records in the UK.

Booker’s second album was announced with the release of the title track “Witness” together with an essay written by Booker, published on his website that tells of his experiences leading up to the writing of the album, and in particular the title track. In effect he is confronting his life as an African-American citizen and the fear of being targeted based purely on the colour of his skin. He says “This song, “Witness,” came out of this experience and the desire to do more than just watch”, and ““Witness” asks two questions I think every person in America needs to ask.“Am I going to be a Witness?” and in today’s world, “Is that enough?”.

This is a powerful message and the song features vocals by Mavis Staples.  The New York Times called the song "a piano-pounding hymn for Black Lives Matter".

The album was produced by Sam Cohen and recorded at The Red Delicious studio in Brooklyn and The Isokon Studio in Woodstock, New York.
